I'm only on Number Four?

#4

I have a dream vacation. Want to know what it is?

I would bring the following things:
-wool
-needles
-a needle gauge/ruler
-a notepad
-pencils
-a laptop equipped with only a word processor
-peanut butter, bread, Mini Wheats and milk, a dozen eggs and some cheddar, and a tin of tea

I would knit, sleep, walk out in the middle of a night of pouring rain, write my Novel, cry rivers of tears, and BE ALONE.

Is that too much to ask?

Didn't think so.

Wow, that island is beaut-ee-ful. At the risk of torturing you, your dream vacation sounds an awful lot like a typical weekend around here, apart from the peace and quiet and natural beauty aspect. When I'm being antisocial, that is (which, admittedly, I am not, lately).

Ah, the lure of aloneness when young people are your constant companions....

A word from the neither wizzened or wise ... writing takes determination not location. I had to learn that as a writer. My first book was written in chaos - no peace, no quiet, no walks in the rain. I needed to carve out the day - I'm only saying this 'cause A) it's true and B) I WANT to read your novel ... so get cracking.

I with Dave. I want to read your book, too. And, darn it, I want an autographed copy, as well.

If it was really as peaceful as it sounds it could be lovely.

For a while...

Well, I didn't mean to imply a causal relationship between being alone on Rona and writing my novel....I would still do the one without the other, although I would certainly argue that having two children in the house impedes the book progress.

Although hey - I could shut the blog down for a year and spend that extra time REALLY writing, couldn't I?

Perish the thought of shutting down blog!!!!!!!
NOnOnonono.
and, your preaching to the choir about that wee bit of solitude.....
And heck yeah I wanna read your book too!

Oh!Take me with you!

Oops, then you wouldn't be alone.

You know I would buy and read your novel.

Okay, I know it's a joke and all, but I am of the opinion that writing a blog is conducive to other writing, not detractful (I made that word up. Sue me.).

Writing is not a zero sum game. It's like orgasms (forgive me; it is late); the more you write, the more energy you have for further writing.

Ah, I agree with Lizbon, writing breeds more writings ... as a man the orgasm analogy doesn't work for me (why do you NEED more than one anyway?) ... but writing a blog is very helpful in writing other things ... so do both ... God gave you 2 HANDS!!

Having just returned from a great weekend with friends and only two of the four free-moving munchkins (the younger two stayed with grandma & grandpa), I completely agree with those who think what you're asking isn't too much. Even getting away with Vern and the older kids was wonderful. The kids played with our friends' 6-year-old daughter, and we adults had a wonderful time. Matter of fact, it wasn't that far from Victoria. Vern was practically swooning because he got to actually lay eyes on the very top of Vancouver Island, past others in the Puget Sound.

Hang in there . . . in a very few years, your girls will be grown, and you'll be pining for time with them, instead of time alone. To every thing there is a season; we mortals just have a hard time dealing with the lengths of those darn long seasons! ;o)
