My Friend Clicka

Watching My Friend Flicka with my daughters, Em saw this scene and remarked "Ma's texting."

Which is so postmodern it kills me. I thought it was bad when they saw a Fisher Price record player and said "It even has some CDs with it".

Oh the cliches are just flooding my mind right now!

On another note - we have got to see this! Bushboy loves the book, and was dismayed when they made Flicka with a 16 year old girl as the main character. I have my thoughts as to why, but now I know there is an original out there!

HILARIOUS!!!

Casually toss in the words "eight track tape" sometime and see what happens.

We were at the library in the audiobook section a while back and they were completely mystified by the cassettes. What are these things? One day, CDs will be just as quaint, I'm sure.

Remember that scene in "Demolition Man" where Sly Stallone wakes up in the future and can't figure out how to use the 'three seashells' in the bathroom? Everyone laughs at him and shudders at the idea of using paper.

Though really, if there's one thing that needs updating, it's toilet paper.

Somewhere, but I can't find the link, there is a youtube of 3rd graders in Montreal examining objects from the past and speculating about their use. It's very funny. But Ma is Texting ranks up there.

Years ago I was working with a young man on a worksheet about things that start with R....on the sheet was a round disc with a hole in the middle (a record).....I pointed to it and said "What about this" and he said "CD doesn't start with R"....I was officially old...and it was time for the teacher to update her materials....

Funny post! What my kids are starting to notice now that they have entered their 20s is they are aware of what some things are that their younger friends/acquaintances have no clue about.

One of my kids' favourite toys when they were babies was the Fisher Price phone - the one with the dial thingy on top and when you pulled it toward you the eyes in the front of the phone moved back and forth. I can't imagine what would be said about that toy now!
